Why Do Kids Thrive In Shop?
At Kilroy’s, we recognize that every student learns differently. Around one-third of our students are diagnosed with ADHD, and approximately 10% are on the autism spectrum. Many of our learners thrive in active, hands-on environments—places where movement, creativity, and real-world application are part of the learning process.
Too often, traditional classrooms don’t align with these learning styles. Neurodivergent students don’t suddenly become who they are in adulthood—they’ve been that way since childhood. That’s why waiting until high school or beyond to introduce shop class is a missed opportunity. By engaging students in hands-on learning at a younger age, we help them discover their strengths early and build confidence that lasts a lifetime.
